Mythology and Sailor Moon
(by the way, the picture on the right is of Arianrod. She is listed in the section of Celtic dieties.)

The Mythologies
Greek and Roman:

Because the Greek and Roman are so similar, I thought I would combine the two. Most of the Gods and Goddesses are the same, just with different names. These are only the main Gods of Olympus, but there are many more characters that aren't listed.

Diana/Artemis/Selene- There are many moon goddesses in many mythologies, but these are just some names. Artemis is the Goddess of the hunt and wild animals. She is usually shown with a lion or tiger and a bow.
Mercury(Roman)/Hermes(Greek)- Hermes is the God of eloquence, science, travel and knowlege. He is also the messenger god, and seen with a staff that looks like two orbs encircled with ribbons.Demeter(Greek)-
Demeter is Goddess of the harvest and grain. She was said to be the mother of Persephone- Queen of the Underworld.
Venus/Aphrodite- Goddess of love and beauty. She originated in Italy as Goddess of spring.
Mars/Ares- God of War. Asociated with the red planet.
Jupiter/Zeus- He is known as the King of the Gods- the most powerful. He is associated with lightening and thunder, and is known to create massive storms. His wife is Hera- she is also strong and beautiful.
Saturn/Chronos- God of agriculture. Many associate this God with time, but he only gave his name to it.
Neptune/Poseiden- God of the Sea. It was mentioned in an epic poem of a ten year voyage, that Poseiden had a son whom was a cyclops. This was one of the many myths including this God.
Pluto/Hades- God of the Underworld and husband to Persephone. His symbol is that of serpents- which symbolize the underworld in the Celtic mythology as well.

Hindu Mythology
Hinduism derives from India, and has a different aspect to it than the Greek. The Hinus believe in reincarnation, and they not as war-oriented as the Greek,Roman, or Norse mythologies.
Ganesh: elephant god with four hands, and who rides on a mouse. Destroys obstacles, new beginings, good luck.

Durga: Rides on a tiger, eight arms, red clothing. Protection from pain and suffering, Goddess of power.Incarnation of Shiva .

Rama: Shown with bow and arrow. Fights off evil, reincarnation. Incarnation of Vishnu.

Krishna: Krishna is blue, to represent openness and space. And gold for the earth. Holds a flute. Indicates spread of love to people. Loving and powerful.

Hanuman: The monkey god. An accomplished musician. There are a couple stories as to his creation.

Brahma: Has four heads, bearded, four arms, and he sits on a lotus. He represents knowlegde, and he is the lord creator.

Vishnu: Four arms. Holds objects in three of his hands. Has a crown and sits on a snake. Gave birth to Rama. Represents the sleeping universe, and has ten incarnations.

Shiva: matted hair, a serpant coiled around his neck, holding a trident in one hand. Ashes all over himself. Represents mercy and compassion.

Lakshmi: She has four arms, and is usually pictured near water with elephants around. She always wears red for energy and gold for activity. She stands on a lotus. Lakshmi represents love, beauty, prosperity, generosity, and is married to Vishnu.

Kali: Smeared with blood, red eyed, large teeth, big tongue, dripping with blood, necklace of skulls, and is usually shown as being black or blue. Kali is the destroyer, protects worshipers from fear, and will devour all that exists.

Celtic Mythology
This is one of my favorite mythologies, because the dieties represent the many forms of nature. Here are a few of my favorite dieties in this mythology:
Arianrhod- her nickname is 'the silver wheel'. She has a constellation named after her called "arianrhod's castle". She is the goddess of reincarnation, stars, the full moon, and fertility.

Anu- Goddess of earth, fertility and comfort.

Badb- Associated with crows, couldrons, ravens, light, wisdom, inspiration and enlightenment.

BEL - God that is closely connected to the Druids. Science, healing, hot springs, fire, success, prosperity, purification, crops, vegetation, fertility. A sun and fire god.

BLODEUWEDD- The maiden form of the Triple Goddess. Goddess of the earth in bloom, flowers, wisdom, lunar mysteries, initiations.

Branwen- Goddess of love and beauty
